Ruby the Cat - When Animals Ask For Help

There's this thing that happens in households with multiple animals and different species. They recognize true heart-centered healing, most likely by the vibration healers carry. They feel it in their midst, and they are drawn to it.

It's common for dogs to meet me sacrum first at my truck when I arrive at a farm. Horses will come to the fence to get close to me while I work, soaking in the good vibrations. Animals follow me around or hang out nearby, asking for help and healing.

I’ve experienced this phenomenon time and time again, but perhaps never more powerfully than in my own family: at my brother’s house in Boston, with his wife’s cat, Ruby.

Ruby is a beautiful Siberian cat my brother’s family had gotten because they loved the breed; their first Siberian, Boris, was a gorgeous lion of a cat and the most kind and loving creature. Ruby had a totally different personality: you basically never saw her. In eight years of visiting my brother I saw Ruby maybe five times. That was before she asked me for help.

My “help” was not always appreciated in my brother’s home because of Charlie, the Eunuch Labradoodle. Charlie got this name because he had been castrated by the breeder at 8 weeks old, which makes me sick to even think about. Because of this, Charlie had some painful hip and back issues, and I would work on him whenever I visited. I couldn’t do much because Charlie would start crying out with discomfort and I would be banned.

It was Ruby’s transformation that made my brother and his wife recognize my skills as a healer. Ruby was the invisible cat in their house. She hid from everyone and definitely did NOT ask for help.

Until the day she did, and it was me she asked.

The mysterious Ruby approached me when I was alone, and the look in her eye couldn’t have been clearer. She was in pain, and she was desperate. And she knew I was the one who could help her. When I ran my hands over her back, she didn’t try to run away even though my eyes filled with tears as I understood the pain she must be feeling. So much heat… and none of the tissue felt normal! She had been living with terrible chronic pain for a long, long time.

As I slowly and gently worked to release the fascia along her mid-back, the softer and more supple her body became. She began to breathe easier when I worked away the tightness and soreness around her ribs. When my sister in law got home, Ruby let me pick her up again and demonstrate where to massage her and how to manipulate her hind limbs to help restore normal mobility.

Within days Ruby  was totally transformed. For the first time she joined in as a full and present family member taking up coveted couch space and interacting happily with everyone, even Charlie.

I hurt inside when I think about all the years Ruby struggled with her body and was afraid of interaction of any kind because she feared she would not be able to get away or protect herself if she had to. I am so grateful she recognized me as a healer and asked for help.

When I am able to help an animal alleviate their pain, I feel completely aligned with my purpose here on earth.
